VUČIĆ DISSOLVES PARLIAMENT AND CALLS SNAP ELECTIONS: Citizens of Serbia will go to the polls on October 25!

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić*** has called early parliamentary elections.***

Vučić had previously signed the decision to dissolve the Serbian Parliament based on the proposal submitted to him by the Government of Serbia.

“Citizens of Serbia, you will certainly have the opportunity to choose from many options. I ask you to make that choice in a peaceful and dignified manner. It is important that we respect different political opinions, the right to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression. I ask you to carefully consider how and to whom you give your trust. I am confident that you will choose the right path into the future, and whoever you choose will certainly receive my congratulations. Based on the reasoned proposal of the Government, I am issuing the decree on the dissolution of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, and this decree enters into force on the day it is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia. I am making the decision to call elections for members of parliament for October 25,” Vučić said.

Had there been no tensions, there would have been no elections

“Dear citizens, the previous years have been extremely challenging, in terms of foreign policy, domestic politics, energy, generally speaking. Serbia has gone through a difficult period. The order in the world established in 1945 has been overturned,” Vučić said.

He stated that the current government had managed “to preserve peace and stability.”

“Over the past year and a half, we have experienced major turbulences on the domestic political scene. It would be wrong to conclude that this was solely a conflict between political parties here in Serbia. With the involvement of foreign powers, we experienced unrest and a divided society here,” Vučić said, adding that this was why he had called on his political opponents to engage in dialogue, but, as he said, there had never been a response.

Vučić added that elections were therefore necessary to clearly determine the will of the citizens.

“I believed that Serbia had chosen a good, European path. Why did I make the decision to call elections? I spoke with many people, and everyone had different answers. As president, I have always been guided by the vital interests of the Republic of Serbia and the interests of the citizens of Serbia. Were elections necessary for us now? If there were not such tensions, if there were not such political disagreements and conflicts, they certainly would not be necessary. Any delay would jeopardize EXPO and the survival of democracy,” Vučić said.

Vučić emphasized that democracy is the best form of political system and that he is proud of his democratic choices.
