A passenger boat operated by “Filo Jet,” carrying more than 250 passengers, capsized shortly after departing from the port of Kyrenia in northern Cyprus, local media outlet Özgür Gazete Kıbrıs reports.

The accident occurred approximately two to three kilometers from the shore. The passengers who were on board climbed onto the overturned hull of the vessel, where they are waiting for help and evacuation.

A major rescue operation is underway

A major rescue operation is currently underway at the scene, involving coast guard vessels, helicopters, private boats and vessels from other companies.

A large number of ambulances have been deployed along the shore and are on standby to provide medical assistance to injured passengers and others as soon as they are brought ashore.

So far, there is no official information about injuries or possible fatalities.
