President of the Parliament of Montenegro Andrija Mandić has scheduled an extraordinary parliamentary session for September 24.

According to a statement from the Parliament, MPs will vote that day on an initiative to remove Mandić from office, submitted by the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).

The initiative, as previously announced by the DPS, was signed by a total of 35 MPs. In addition to 16 DPS MPs, it was also supported by six MPs from the Bosniak Party (BS), four MPs from the Civic Movement URA, three MPs from the European Alliance, as well as Adrijan Vuksanović, Mehmet Zenka, Nikola Janović, Miodrag Laković, Artan Čobi and Ilir Čapuni, Analitika reports.

As a reminder, the DPS initiative came after Andrija Mandić sent a condolence telegram in early September to Darko Mladić, the son of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić, following his death. The DPS described the move as unacceptable and said that Mandić had, as they put it, “crossed the line” when it comes to performing his duties as President of Parliament.

The session at which Mandić’s removal will be debated was scheduled at the request of 29 MPs and is due to begin at noon.
