Residents of Novi Sad gathered in the city center this evening to celebrate Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s decision to postpone his visit to Novi Sad. “We stopped the spilling of Ćacilization into our city,” Novi Sad civic assemblies said in a call to citizens.

The gathering was held at Freedom Square, where a large rally in support of students came to an end. According to the organizers, this evening’s gathering was marked by victory and solidarity between citizens and students.

“The Mafia has capitulated”

A clear and forceful message was delivered from the stage in the city center, sparking enthusiasm among those gathered:

–Tonight is a huge victory for you and for us. The mafia has capitulated. And there will be even more victories, because the students are winning – the message delivered to the gathered residents of Novi Sad said.

Runners as the prelude to the start of the program

A special moment of the evening was the arrival of the group “Running for the Students,” whose entrance onto Freedom Square marked the official beginning of the program. They ran a route from the campus through the city, greeted with thunderous applause.

Tatjana Anđelić, speaking on behalf of the runners, emphasized that they continued their campaign regardless of the circumstances:

–We were supposed to come as part of the previously planned events… When that rally was canceled, we decided to run anyway because we run for ourselves and for all the people who support the students. We started symbolically when the blockades began, and we will continue for as long as this struggle lasts – she said.

Pogačar: They announced his arrival eight times – that shows how much Vučić’s word is worth

Miran Pogačar of the Bravo Movement told N1 that free and courageous people had gathered tonight.

“The government must change. Tonight is just an indication of what this could look like in the future when the SNS no longer exists, and of how those days can be filled with freedom, satisfaction, and all the positive emotions that the people of Novi Sad are feeling tonight,” he said.

Pogačar added that “Vučić can come a thousand times now,” but that “when it mattered, he did not dare and did not come.”

“They can announce that they will come during the campaign, just as Žarko Mićin announced that he would come later, but that no longer matters. They announced it eight times – that only shows how much Aleksandar Vučić’s word is worth, that a man can make a promise eight times and not fulfill it even once. What can his voters and citizens expect from him at all? That man has no credibility whatsoever,” he said.

Obstructions and fines before the start

As a reminder, the very beginning of the organization was marked by obstruction. During the afternoon, while the organizers were assembling the stage in front of City Hall, the municipal police appeared and issued them a fine for alleged “usurpation of public space and an unregistered gathering.”

Despite this, the rally was successfully held, and after the official addresses in front of City Hall, the program concluded with a musical segment and the main message of the evening – that Novi Sad is a free city.
