Serbia will play at the World Handball Championship! Despite the defeat in the return match in Hungary of 31:30, the Eagles are going to the planetary showcase due to the triumph in the first match of 31:29!
The Serbian handball players celebrated with 31:29 in Nis, and then were forced to do everything they could to defend that advantage in Veszprem.
The Hungarians played forcefully, trying in every way to reach the World Championship in a heated atmosphere – in which a fight almost broke out at one point.
But the Eagles kept a cool head in the finish, the experienced ones scored when it was most needed, and then with defense prevented the rival from reaching the planetary championship – despite the victory.
The match was played with a lot of intensity from the start – and how could it not be when the stake was placement at the World Championship. The Hungarians sought to impose a rhythm, because they were chasing the result from the first match. The hosts did not miss from the attack at the start, they quickly resolved all situations and were a step ahead. Serbia managed to turn it around to 5:4 after a goal by Vanja Ilic – but was not in the lead for long.
Hungary went to 10:7, as they reached a goal with a player less. However, the defended seven-meter throw by Milosavljev brought an additional dose of confidence to the Eagles. With one quick goal by Kos, then a stolen ball and a realized counterattack by Dodic, our handball players gained the advantage again (15:14).

A few debatable decisions by the referees followed, but the Eagles withstood the pressure, and with a great action and a goal by Mitrovic after an assist from Ilic, they reached an equalizer (17:17) at halftime.
And then – complete chaos at the beginning of the second. First Dodic was excluded, and then Borzas roughly hit Fazekas, because of which Rosta pushed him away. However, a fight on the court was prevented. Soon Serbia was left without a third player on the court, because Pesmalbek also received two minutes! In those moments, Hungary escaped even to 22:19.
It was played sharply in the continuation, with a lot of contact, along with some controversial decisions by the referees – but the Eagles managed to catch up, with important goals by Djukic, Pesmalbek, and Marsenic in the final minutes for a deficit of 31:30.
Serbia took risks, tried to come out with all seven players in the attack, but there was no equalizer. The Hungarians had the last attack – but Pesmalbek stole the ball – and one goal difference remained. With the advantage from the first match – the Eagles went to the World Championship.
