Aleksandar Vučić, the President of Serbia, compared himself to Dejan Bodiroga, the famous Serbian basketball player, whom he clearly views as a political opponent, even though Bodiroga himself has never stood out in those waters, except as a citizen supporting students and the struggle that has lasted more than a year.

Vučić did not dispute that Bodiroga was a great player, but in his opinion, there is a serious difference in education and knowledge between the two of them.

“He is convincingly the least educated of all of them, everyone in the city knows that. It is well known that he is not of particularly high education… He was a great player, I am nothing, an amateur. Successful, he brought us many medals, I thank him for that. As far as education and politics are concerned, that is another matter. He will not agree to a debate. You can hide the difference in education, knowledge, and dedication for 5-10-15 minutes; anything beyond that is obvious. You cannot cover those gaps, it is impossible,” said the President of Serbia.

He continued in the same tone.

“It is enough for me to see and listen to someone for 20 minutes to know well enough how much that person knows or does not know. Not all people in this country are uneducated, stupid, uncommitted… It is difficult to deceive people. Someone cannot prepare three statements for you, for you to look and read from a ‘teleprompter’ and have them say ‘this one will save the country’ – he won’t, because he knows nothing about it… George Weah was there, and then he ended infamously in Liberia. He was a football player, but he ended very infamously (as a politician),” Vučić added.

Bodiroga took a stand with the students and all the good people fighting for a better and fairer system in Serbia long ago.

The famous Serbian basketball player has appeared at protests across the country many times, and he is a good friend to some prominent figures who have openly criticized the current regime, such as Nemanja Vidić, Bishop Grigorije, and even Novak Đoković, who also supported students and young people in the struggle for a better tomorrow in Serbia long ago…

Currently, Bodiroga is the president of the EuroLeague, so it is truly difficult to expect his political engagement in Serbia, but it is clear that with his popularity, reputation in society, and gentlemanly manners, he enjoys great respect and support, and has become a significant factor on the political scene.

A few days ago, Vučić also talked about Bodiroga, only during a guest appearance on “Blic,” rather than “Informer.” At that time, he also brought Rector Vladan Đokić into the story, whom he also perceives as a major political rival.

“It would be a difficult match, Đokić and Bodiroga are extremely popular, they have high ratings, they bring great popularity. We will see who the opponents will be, we have analyzed that now, so we will agree among ourselves,” said Vučić, talking about the ever-current elections in Serbia.
