One of the best Serbian, European, and world water polo players of all time, Filip Filipović, has ended his playing career.

Filipović announced the news of his retirement after winning the US national championship title with the Los Angeles Water Polo Club.

“You won’t see me in the pool anymore, yes. That’s it. I’ve decided. I didn’t want to announce anything, because whenever I announced something – something would happen. As I said, I received a signal and that’s it. The last shot, the last goal for the club. These guys were incredible, and I am proud that I led them to the end,” Filipović said after the final match.

Filipović ended his career as the MVP of the US National League final with six goals, including the penalty for the title.

“Let’s say that this is one of those finals you live for. As I said before, this is probably the best that world water polo has seen in recent months. I am grateful for being a part of this club; this is the last game of my career and I couldn’t imagine it ending like this,” the Serb emphasized.

In his impressive career, Filipović won everything there was to win.

With the Serbian national team, he took two Olympic golds along with two bronzes, two world championship titles along with one silver and one bronze each, and six European championship titles, also with a silver and a bronze each.

He won the World League 12 times and the World Cup twice.

Regarding his club career, he played for Partizan, Pro Recco, Radnički Kragujevac, Szolnok, Olympiacos, and Novi Beograd.

With Partizan, he won three double crowns, and with Pro Recco three Champions Leagues, while with Radnički and Szolnok he won two Eurocups.

In the final stage of his career, he played in Kuwait and the USA.

“It’s probably this feeling I have now, the energy. I don’t miss the goals, the titles… because I won everything. But these friendships, that’s what I’ll miss. Now I will take a different path. It will be water polo, but it’s different from playing in the pool,” Filipović concluded.
