Alija Madžović, a native of Novi Pazar who studies in Turkey, said that no polling stations would be opened in the country for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Serbia, despite the appeals filed by students.
Speaking on behalf of students from Serbia studying in Turkey, he told Our Portal that polling stations would not be opened either at the Serbian Embassy in Ankara or at the Consulate in Istanbul.
Student coordinators for Asia informed voters that appeals against the decisions of the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) not to open polling stations had been rejected, and directed them to check where they could vote on the upit.birackispisak.gov.rs website.
“Our students’ request to vote abroad was also rejected. Some of them will fly from Bursa, Çanakkale and Istanbul to Novi Pazar on Friday so they can vote on Sunday,” Madžović said.
He explained that his request to vote in Turkey had initially been approved, but that he was later prevented from voting in the country without any explanation, even though diplomatic missions exist in Bursa, Alanya, Istanbul and Ankara.
“We are sending messages of support to all citizens who are going to the polls on October 25, hoping that everything will pass peacefully. We want everyone who left the country because of injustice, party connections and corruption to return home as soon as possible,” Madžović said.
