The Iranian National Guard stopped the merchant ship “MSC Francesca,” on which there are four Montenegrin seafarers, announced the Minister of Maritime Affairs Filip Radulović.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Montenegro confirmed that the captain and the chief engineer on the “MSC Francesca” are citizens of Montenegro.
From the department managed by Filip Radulović, it was stated that everyone in the ministry is engaged in monitoring this situation and gathering as much information as possible.
Due to what is happening with our seafarers in Hormuz, other bodies in the Government of Montenegro have also been alarmed, and an official reaction from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs toward the authorities in Tehran is expected.

“It was confirmed to us from the ship that our seafarers and the rest of the crew are in good health and safe. Negotiations between the shipping company and the Iranian side are ongoing, and competent state authorities are in constant contact with the crew. We send full support to our seafarers and their families, with the message that we will do everything for a positive outcome of this situation and the safety of our seafarers,” said Radulović.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that the ships “Epaminodes” and “MSC Francesca” were seized.
Regarding the MSC company ship, which flies the flag of Panama and on which the Montenegrin seafarers are sailing, the Iranians stated in a press release that “MSC Francesca” is “connected to the Zionist regime” (the authorities in Israel), but they did not provide more details on what they base such a claim.

“Tasnim News” announced that the two vessels were “not in compliance with regulations” and named them as MSC Francesca and Epaminondas – two ships that were previously fired upon in the waterway.
It added that they were “escorted to the Iranian coast.” It is not clear exactly how the vessels were “seized,” if that is indeed the case, “Sky News” writes.
Tasnim also claimed that the ships “endangered maritime safety by operating without the necessary permits and manipulating navigation systems.”
The report comes after the US seized one Iranian ship and boarded another in recent days.
