SERBIAN IRONMAN CHAMPION SERIOUSLY INJURED: Mirjana Ranković suffers an accident during a race in the USA and is in intensive care, urgent appeal launched!

Serbian Ironman champion Mirjana Ranković (45) suffered a serious accident during a race in Maryland, United States, and is currently in intensive care.

Ranković was seriously injured while leading her age group, and according to information from the Serbian Triathlon Federation, she is facing multiple surgeries and a lengthy recovery.

The federation issued a statement regarding the accident and launched an appeal for help for the Serbian athlete.

“Mirjana is one of the people thanks to whom thousands of people return safely to their loved ones every day. As an air traffic controller at Geneva Airport, she directs aircraft every day and cares for the safety of people she may never meet. Today, she needs our help.

Last weekend, during the Ironman race in Maryland, Mirjana suffered a serious accident while leading her age group. She sustained severe injuries and is currently in intensive care at a hospital in the United States. She faces multiple surgeries, a long and extremely difficult recovery, as well as an uncertain road to full recovery. The costs of treatment and a lengthy hospital stay will be enormous,” the appeal states.

Mirjana is 45 years old and a mother of two teenage daughters, and she has had a rich sporting career. As a young woman, she competed in swimming before later turning to long-distance triathlon. She qualified for the famous Ironman race in Kona several times and represented Serbia at major competitions.

“Behind all the medals, races and results, there is something much more important – an extraordinary person. A mother, friend, daughter, colleague. A woman who has spent her entire life caring for others.

Now it is our turn to care for her. We ask everyone who is able to help by making a donation to support her treatment and recovery.
