Many strange moves from the previous summer are now coming back to cost Vasilije Micić. And quite literally so.

He decided to change the agency that represents him, he decided to make an unexpected decision regarding the continuation of his career, and now it has come to this.

Hapoel Tel Aviv has already returned to its daily obligations and victories on the court, but at the same time, the club is being followed by a legal drama involving the team’s biggest star, Vasilije Micić. As reported by the Israeli portal ONE, Greek agent Nikolaos Spanos has filed a lawsuit against the Serbian playmaker before the FIBA Arbitration Tribunal (BAT), and according to available information, Micić’s legal team has already submitted a response to the accusations.

The dispute dates back to the period when it became clear that Micić would leave the NBA and return to Europe. As one of the biggest names on the market, the Serbian national team player was a target for numerous EuroLeague clubs, especially after parting ways with his long-time agent Miško Ražnatović. At that moment, Spanos managed to sign a representation contract with Micić.

However, the cooperation lasted for a very short time. Just two days later, Micić informed Spanos that he was terminating the agreement, while the deal regarding his transfer to Hapoel Tel Aviv was ultimately realized by Spanish agent Igor Crespo, known for his collaboration with Nikola Mirotić. Crespo works closely with the agency of Matan Siman Tov and Doug Neustadt, which represents players like Deni Avdija, Théo Maledon, and Zaccharie Risacher.

At the center of the dispute is the question of the commission. Crespo, according to standard practice, received a commission from Hapoel as part of the transfer arrangement, while Spanos believes that he is also entitled to significant compensation due to the previously signed contract with Micić.

The Greek agent claims that the very act of signing the representation contract obligates the player to pay the commission, regardless of the fact that the cooperation was terminated shortly thereafter and that the transfer was not directly realized by him.

According to estimates, the value of the lawsuit ranges between 400,000 and 600,000 dollars. Interestingly, Spanos already has strong connections with Hapoel, as he represents several important players of the Israeli club, including Antonio Blakeney, Daniel Oturu, Kessler Edwards, and Collin Malcolm.

In the meantime, Hapoel Tel Aviv has an extremely successful debut season in the EuroLeague behind them. The club clinched a spot in the playoffs by winning sixth place and has already secured its appearance in the elite competition for the next year as well. At Hapoel, they now hope that the legal problems of their biggest signing will not leave a mark on his performances in the final stretch of the battle for the domestic title.
