Talented goalkeeper Veljko Vučetić, born in 2011, is expected to receive his Red Star kit as early as next week and continue his development in the Serbian champions’ youth academy, Mozzart Sport reports.

He is a goalkeeper who in previous years was regarded as one of the more promising players at the Sarajevo Academy, but his time at Koševo recently came to an end under highly unusual circumstances.

At just 15 years old, Vučetić was occasionally given the opportunity to train with Sarajevo’s first team, which says enough about how highly his potential was regarded within the club. Official registration data show that he joined Sarajevo from FK Olimp from Pale at the beginning of 2025, while this season he was a member of their U17 squad.

His football story at Koševo was abruptly cut short at the end of August. The Sarajevo Academy confirmed that Vučetić was no longer a member after posts by his father dedicated to Ratko Mladić appeared on social media.

Vučetić’s father posted a photo with the message:

“Thank you for everything, General.”

The post sparked numerous reactions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, after which Sarajevo very quickly decided to terminate its cooperation with the young goalkeeper. The club then said that there was no place within its organization for the promotion of individuals convicted of war crimes.

An important detail in the entire case is that the controversial post was not written by Veljko, but by his father. Precisely because of this, the decision for the 15-year-old footballer to bear the consequences sparked additional controversy in the public.

His career should now take a completely new direction. According to information that emerged after his departure from Sarajevo, Vučetić will receive his Red Star kit as early as next week and continue working at one of the strongest youth academies in the region.

For the red-and-whites, this represents an investment in the future, as this is a goalkeeper who is only now entering his more serious youth years. Vučetić has already had experience playing in older age groups and was also part of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s youth national teams.

Red Star traditionally follows the most talented footballers from Serbia and the region very closely, so the young goalkeeper will now have the opportunity to leave the turbulent episode in Sarajevo behind him and focus exclusively on the pitch.
