Representatives of the Student List held a press conference today in Pionirski Park, where they presented specific goals and announced the next steps of the student movement.
The Student List – Students Are Winning calls on Nenad Stefanović, Chief Public Prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, to submit his immediate and irrevocable resignation, given that throughout his entire term he has drastically violated the principle of impartiality and, through his selective actions, undermined citizens’ trust in the public prosecutor’s office.
For the same reasons, Miodrag Marković, Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, is also being called on to submit his immediate and irrevocable resignation.
Given that Constitutional Court President Vladan Petrov acted in a biased manner throughout his entire term in favor of Aleksandar Vučić’s regime, and that throughout the entire election campaign he acted as a spokesperson for the Serbian Progressive Party rather than as a professor at the Faculty of Law, let alone as a Constitutional Court judge who is obliged to act impartially, the Student List – Students Are Winning demands his immediate and irrevocable resignation as both a judge and president of the Constitutional Court.
Professor and Student List candidate Mirjana Nikolić said they had sent an open letter to the management of RTS and the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM).
They stated that, despite some of their demands for the resignations of Manja Grčić and Bojana Mlađenović having been met, they are still calling for the resignation of RTS Deputy Director General Dejan Jovanović over what they describe as “selective reporting, the suppression of pluralism, and the stigmatization of students and citizens,” as well as the formation of an interim management board for the public broadcaster.
They announced that their MPs would initiate the process of filling vacancies on the REM Council, while they are demanding the resignation of Vladimir Lučić from Telekom Srbija and an end to what they claim is unjustified spending of money.
“Telekom is a distributor and must not be Serbia’s chief editor,” Nikolić said, emphasizing that they want “media that serve the citizens.”
The press conference was opened by student Filip Ubović, who said that citizens had given a clear mandate in the elections for the rule of law, equality before the law, and the liberation of institutions, stressing that implementing this mandate begins immediately, without waiting for the formation of a government.
The student called on citizens to continue liberating their institutions and prevent any abuses that representatives of the outgoing government might attempt during the transition period.
“Citizens, workers, managers, directors of state-owned companies, institutions and courts, as well as current and former ministers, are already informally contacting candidates and students in their capacity as whistleblowers. So that we can keep records of all your reports, we are opening an email address where you can send us information: uzbunjivaci@studenti.org.rs. The Law on the Protection of Whistleblowers protects you, and we stand with you because you are safeguarding the public interest. You have our support,” Ubović said.
It should be recalled that this is the first press conference since election day on October 25, at which specific goals will be presented and the next steps of the student movement discussed.
“Following a historic election day, we are continuing to communicate clearly and openly with the public about everything that comes next,” the Student List website states.
