All candidates on the “Student List – Students Win” have signed a declaration guaranteeing that they have had no ties to the ruling parties, will not abuse their office, and will work to fulfil the students’ demands and the goals set out in the Social Agreement and the Minimum Program. They have specifically pledged that if they are found to have breached any of these guarantees or failed to fulfil their assumed duties, they will be considered to have resigned.

The students also recalled how the “Student List – Students Win” came into being.

“The candidates were not chosen by party leaders, nor did someone put together a list in a room and simply announce it to everyone else. They were selected by students through a decision-making process that we built over more than a year of blockades, plenary assemblies, discussions and joint work. That process was not always quick, nor was it simple,” they stated on their website.

They emphasized that direct democracy is rare and involves discussion, disagreement, arguments, revisiting decisions and accountability to the people taking part in the process. However, that was precisely why it was important to them that the electoral list be formed in this way.

They also pointed out that there is no “one person” at the head of their list and that they are not looking for a new leader around whom another personality cult could be built.

“We do not expect them to be infallible or to have an answer to every question. We expect much simpler things, although in this country they are apparently much harder to achieve: that they be accountable for what they do, listen to the people they represent, explain their decisions and understand that a parliamentary seat is not a reward, a privilege or the beginning of a political career,” the students stated.

They once again stressed that serving as a member of parliament is a public duty and that the mandate belongs to the citizens.

In line with this, all Student List candidates signed a declaration assuming moral and political responsibility, pledging to fulfil their duties and work towards meeting the students’ demands and achieving the goals set out in the Social Agreement and the Minimum Program.
