Students of Fifth Belgrade Gymnasium reportedly caught the school principal throwing a black bag into a dumpster this evening, according to information Nedeljnik received from sources at the scene. The principal was detained shortly afterward.
The students took the bag out and, according to our source, found a pile of documents inside.
The students then called their parents, who arrived outside the school, surrounded the principal, and blocked the exit from the school parking lot.
Police soon arrived at the scene, and the principal was taken into custody at the Palilula Police Department.
It is not yet known what kind of documents were involved or why they ended up in the dumpster. According to our information, there were additional documents besides those in that bag.
The Parents’ Council of Fifth Belgrade Gymnasium submitted an urgent request to the Ministry of Education several days ago, calling for a change in the school’s leadership, the lifting of teachers’ suspensions, and the establishment of legitimate school management.
Principal Ognjen Mrvaljević, a physical education teacher, took over the leadership of the renowned gymnasium following a series of turbulent events at the school over the previous two years.

In February, Education Minister Dejan Vuk Stanković appointed him as acting principal after his predecessor, Danka Nešović, completed her second six-month term as acting principal. Unlike Danka Nešović, who was brought in from outside the school, Mrvaljević had already been a member of the staff.
In October, following a public recruitment process, he was appointed principal for a four-year term, while the Parents’ Council asked the Ministry to annul the appointment over alleged irregularities in the selection process.
