Officers from the Anti-Corruption Service entered the Belgrade District Prison, commonly known as Central Prison, today to investigate claims made in an anonymous criminal complaint alleging that detainee Marko Kričak is in possession of a mobile phone.
The operation is being carried out on the orders of the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, as part of a request to gather the necessary information.
According to a statement from the Prosecutor’s Office, police officers have been instructed to search the premises where suspect Marko Kričak is being held.
The investigation also includes the office used by the acting director of the Special Detention Unit at Belgrade District Prison, identified by the initials M. V.
“An inspection of the office used by M. V., the acting director of the Special Detention Unit at Belgrade District Prison, has also been ordered,” the statement said.
If mobile phones are found in the possession of the individuals concerned during the searches, police have been instructed to seize them and issue receipts for the temporarily confiscated items.
The Prosecutor’s Office stated that all these measures are being taken to determine whether there are grounds to suspect the commission of a criminal offense subject to prosecution ex officio.
So far, no information has been released on whether a mobile phone was found during the police operation or what the results of the searches were.
The authorities’ action followed an anonymous criminal complaint, the allegations of which have yet to be verified.
