With the current way the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) functions within the current ruling coalition, the existence of the SPS is to a large extent threatened, and it is therefore necessary to perform a reset, retouching, fine-tuning and to return to original principles, says Branko Ružić, vice president of the party’s Main Board.
Ružić told KTV television and the show “Without Pardon” that he is “justifiably afraid” that the continuation of the trend of coalition, rather than independent performance of the socialists, would result in “the complete loss of the manifest position and influence of the SPS.”
As reported by the Simptom portal, Ružić said that Serbia today, in 2026, is a “field of political instability.”
“We need talks about the Serbia of the future, even after Vučić, and in the context of all the events both here and in the region, the world…”, said Ružić.
As he pointed out that “all power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely,” he emphasized that “the degree of corruption of the SPS in this absolute power will be as much as we were consulted,” and stated that what is relevant is what and how great the negative consequences are for the country and society.
“If we (SPS) do not change, the citizens will have no one to trust,” pointed out Ružić, who, not for the first time, called upon or rather alerted the public oriented towards the socialists that a departure from the Serbian Progressive Party is necessary.

He asked how it is possible for certain suspicious individuals to cruise through local areas “and then Aleksandar Vučić comes out and says that ‘we live in a normal society'”.
“If that is so, why the beatings, why the entire logistics and infrastructures of certain cities present on the ground for two months to ensure victory in the elections? Unfortunately, in seven or eight places there were quite a lot of those problematic situations and events. However, you come to a position where, despite all those arrangements that were made on a knife’s edge in terms of the number of mandates, you are in five or six out of ten places where the elections were held. That is a clear indicator. Secondly, the turnout trend indicates to us that this will be the determining factor in future parliamentary elections, and that is, in my opinion, an important factor in the democratization of our society,” assessed Ružić.
He pointed out that he sees as one of the so-called differentia specifica between the SNS and the SPS the fact that “our people never put masks on their faces, and those who do put them on should be asked why they are hiding.”
“If they are so confident in the correctness of their actions, I don’t know why they put on masks, let them take them off and appear face to face,” Ružić replied to the host’s comment that, for example, the mayor of Zrenjanin is also one of those under a mask, “who with his comrades defends the secret positions of the SNS in defense of victory at the local level.”
Ružić adds that the people in the SPS are “civilized people, and they yearn for normalcy like other people in Serbia.”
“Also, do not think that it is fine for ordinary Progressives either that they have to appear at some place or vote, under threats and blackmail, and that they live in a completely manipulated society. Nevertheless, it is clear that Serbia will no longer look like that after the next elections,” concluded Branko Ružić.
