[Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic] said after his elimination from the Cincinnati Masters that he has a health problem that has been bothering him for the past few years.
Djokovic lost to Thiago Agustín Tirante 2:1 (6:2, 4:6, 4:6) in the second round, and during the match he vomited and visibly struggled to breathe due to the extremely high humidity.
“First of all, congratulations to my opponent. Honestly, this was not a pleasant match for me at all. That’s how I felt. It’s not the first time, I suppose it won’t be the last either, but it is what it is,” Djokovic said at the press conference after the match.
Djokovic was asked whether the playing conditions had caused him difficulties.
“It’s simply a health problem that I have. It’s been bothering me for the past few years. I have quite a few problems, especially when there is high humidity and heat,” the Serb added.
Djokovic (39) could not confirm that he would return to Cincinnati next year.
“I certainly hope I will, but unfortunately, at this moment, it seems that the chances are greater that I won’t. Still, we’ll see what the future brings,” Djokovic concluded.
The next tournament Djokovic is expected to play is the US Open, which starts on August 30.
The Serb has won the Grand Slam tournament in New York four times, most recently in 2023.
