The last rotation of Captain Nenad Vesić, a longtime pilot for JAT and Air Serbia, concluded on Sunday, August 9, with the landing of the A330 aircraft on flight JU507 from Chicago (ORD) at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport.

Tribute was also paid to Captain Vesić at O’Hare Airport in Chicago, where, upon the arrival of flight JU506, the aircraft was welcomed with the traditional water cannon salute. The return to Belgrade followed a few days later, and after the landing of flight JU507, Belgrade Air Traffic Control extended its congratulations to him over the radio link.

Thus, the last professional rotation of Captain Vesić was marked by a special farewell both in Chicago and upon his return to Belgrade.

Vesić began his flying career at JAT after graduating from the pilot academy in Vršac as a member of the ninth class. He first flew as a first officer on the McDonnell Douglas DC-9, then on the Boeing 737-300, where he later became a captain.

Continuing his career, he transitioned to the Airbus A320, and subsequently to the wide-body Airbus A330, which Air Serbia uses for intercontinental flights.

Over four decades of flying, he accumulated around 20,000 flight hours, spending his entire professional life with JAT and its successor, Air Serbia.

From the DC-9 and Boeing 737 to the Airbus A330, Vesić’s career spanned several generations of passenger aircraft and a large part of the recent history of the Serbian national airline.

Captain Nenad Vesić will remember his last flight to Chicago for a send-off that does not accompany every pilot’s retirement: water cannons at O’Hare and congratulations from air traffic control after his final landing in Belgrade.
