At least two people were detained last night following a shooting involving firearms near the “Miladin Mitić” Elementary School in Laplje Selo, according to multiple media reports, KoSSev reports.
No one was injured, but according to local residents, the gunshots were heard by children who were playing in the schoolyard at the time, KoSSev reports.
The incident occurred in the evening outside the hospitality venue “Firma,” located in the immediate vicinity of the “Miladin Mitić” Elementary School in Laplje Selo.
According to eyewitnesses cited by Kim Radio, RTS, and the Media Center Čaglavica, one person exited the establishment and fired several shots from a firearm, after which police detained at least two individuals.
At the time of the shooting, dozens of women and children were in the schoolyard. According to local residents, they panicked and began running for safety as soon as the gunshots rang out.
Laplje Selo resident Tamara Živić said she was walking with her baby toward the school playground when she heard a gunshot.
“When they heard the gunshot, panic broke out. The children and women who were at the playground started screaming and running away. Once they reached safety, the children called their parents to come and pick them up,” Živić told Kim Radio.
She said the children saw a man raise his arm and begin firing, adding that children as young as five years old were among those present.
Živić stated that this was not the first shooting incident in the village and called for the closure of hospitality venues located in the immediate vicinity of the school.
“The café is directly across from the school, just a few steps from the schoolyard. I think it should be closed so that we can safely bring our children outside,” she said.
After receiving the report, police arrived at the scene and carried out an investigation at the establishment outside which, according to media reports, the shooting took place.
As of the publication of this article, KoSSev added, the Kosovo Police had not released any details regarding the circumstances of the incident, the identities of those detained, or whether the firearm used in the shooting had been recovered.
