The greatest tennis player of all time, Novak Đoković, opened up and spoke to millions of fans around the world about the subject that pains sports lovers the most – the end of his legendary career.
The winner of a record 24 Grand Slam titles admitted that he is fully aware the inevitable moment is drawing closer, even though he continues to prove on the court that he can still overpower any opponent.
Speaking at the prestigious Fanatics Fest event, Novak candidly reflected on the words of a tennis legend that often echo in his mind.
“I still feel that I can compete at the highest level. However, the moment when I retire is certainly closer than ever before. Andre Agassi once said that he didn’t know when the end of my career would come, but that when it does, everything will move very quickly. I think he’s right,” the Serbian star said.
Đoković added that there is no universal or ideal formula for retirement.
“Some want to retire while they are still at the very top, others leave when their bodies simply can no longer withstand the demands, and there are also those who realize they can no longer compete mentally with the very best. At this moment, I’m just trying to enjoy the fact that I can still play.”
