The humane gesture of border police officer Stefan Čović at the Gostun crossing marked the beginning of a family’s annual vacation, after they found themselves in big trouble when their car broke down on the way to Montenegro.
Milan Vučinić set off on summer vacation with his wife, thirteen-year-old daughter, and seventy-six-year-old grandmother, but the journey was cut short by a car breakdown just before the Gostun border crossing. As he states, they waited by the side of the road for more than three hours while numerous vehicles passed by, and no one stopped to ask if they needed help.
They also requested assistance from the Auto-Moto Association of Serbia, which offered them a towing service, but not on-site vehicle repair, while none of the mechanics they contacted were available.
At that moment, border police officer Stefan Čović approached them, who, despite his regular duties, decided to help. He called mechanics, friends, and acquaintances until he found an available repairman who came to the scene and fixed the breakdown, allowing the family to continue their journey.
While they were waiting for help, Čović provided them with water, refreshments, and everything they needed.
“Mr. Stefan Čović restored our faith in good people,” said Milan Vučinić, who publicly expressed his gratitude for the selfless help.
In addition to Stefan Čović, Vučinić also thanked the other border police officers at the Gostun crossing, emphasizing their kindness, professionalism, and readiness to help when it was needed most.
