HEAD OF ALBANIAN INTELLIGENCE SERVICE ARRESTED: She is suspected of leaking state secrets!

Director of Albania’s intelligence service SHISH, Vlora Hyseni, was arrested at the Vrbnica border crossing and escorted to Tiranaby police after a court ordered her to house arrest and suspended her from duty.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama dismissed Hyseni from her position while he was in Washington, following the Special Court’s decision on measures against her.

She is suspected of leaking state secrets

The Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Fight Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) announced that Vlora Hyseni is suspected of assisting the perpetrator of a criminal offense and disclosing state secrets as part of an investigation related to the AKSHI case.

At the time the court decision was issued, Hyseni was on an official trip in Baku, Azerbaijan.

From Kosovo’s intelligence service to the top of Albania’s intelligence community

Hyseni previously built her career in the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, where she served as deputy director from 2019. She was dismissed from that position in 2021, during Albin Kurti’s government.

She became head of Albania’s intelligence service in 2023, at the proposal of Edi Rama, and the decision was subsequently confirmed by decree by Albanian President Bajram Begaj.

The investigation into Hyseni is part of a broader scandal connected to AKSHI, Albania’s National Agency for Information Society, in which SPAK is investigating alleged abuses and the leaking of confidential data.
