A man who had been on the run for years over the killing of a 15-year-old girl in the U.S. state of Tennessee has been arrested in Ljubljana, more than 8,000 kilometers from the crime scene.

According to Index, citing WCTV, U.S. federal authorities said that 23-year-old Seth Walls was arrested Wednesday in the Slovenian capital. His identity was confirmed using fingerprints provided by Interpol.

Walls is currently in custody in Slovenia and is awaiting extradition to Shelby County, Tennessee, where he is expected to face murder charges.

Teenage Girl Killed by a Gunshot to the Head

Walls is accused of fatally shooting 15-year-old Haley Reedy at a house in Millington in September 2022, when he was 19 years old.

According to the medical examiner’s findings, the bullet struck the girl behind her right ear and exited through her left temple. It was determined that the angle at which the bullet passed through her head ruled out the possibility of a self-inflicted wound, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Walls was initially charged with reckless homicide, but the charges were later amended, and he now faces charges of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

After posting $10,000 bail, he failed to appear at a scheduled court hearing. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest, and the search continued until his arrest in Slovenia.

“My Daughter Doesn’t Get a Second Chance”

The family of the murdered teenager publicly expressed its dissatisfaction after the decision to release Walls on bail.

“Whether he meant to or didn’t mean to, he killed my daughter,” her father, David Reedy, told Action News 5 at the time.

“My daughter doesn’t have a second chance. She can’t make a phone call or post bail,” he added.

Shelby County Sheriff Anthony Buckner said the arrest in Slovenia demonstrates the importance of international law enforcement cooperation.

“The arrest of Seth Walls in Slovenia is a powerful example of what can be accomplished when local, state, federal and international law enforcement agencies work together. I commend the federal authorities and all our partners for their determination and persistence,” Buckner said.

Millington Mayor Larry Dagen said the murder of Haley Reedy had deeply affected her family, friends and the entire local community.

“We know that nothing can undo that loss, but we hope this significant step will provide an opportunity for justice and help the family and community heal,” Dagen said.
