Novak Djokovic made quick work of Stefanos Tsitsipas, defeating him 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to comfortably secure a place in the third round of Wimbledon while avoiding the tournament’s late-night curfew.

Although the Greek has been struggling with poor form for quite some time, he cruised through the opening round with a straight-sets victory over Hugo Gaston (6-1, 6-4, 6-2). The greatest tennis player of all time, meanwhile, had a much tougher start against Yibing Wu, advancing after nearly three and a half hours and four hard-fought sets – 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Djokovic and Tsitsipas have played many memorable matches over the years, including two Grand Slam finals and two Masters finals (Madrid 2019, Roland Garros 2021, Rome 2022, Australian Open 2023). Djokovic won every one of those encounters and has now claimed 11 consecutive victories over the Greek, extending his head-to-head lead to 12-2.

Tsitsipas has not defeated the 39-year-old in almost seven full years, with his last victory coming in the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals in 2019, when he rallied from a set down to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. His best results this season have been reaching the quarterfinals in Doha and the Round of 16 in Madrid, while Djokovic made the final in Melbourne.
