According to official information, passports of the Republic of Croatia were found on six children, but it is still unknown whether they are original or forged documents. The Brčko District Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that the identity of the found children has not yet been determined, nor has the authenticity of the documents, which are the subject of expertise.
“The children have not been identified and we do not have reliable data on who these children are or who their parents are. A medical examination of the children was performed and it was determined that they did not live in hygienic conditions, that they have certain parasites and that all measures have been taken. Also, a certain number of them underwent a gynecological examination,” said the Chief Prosecutor of Brčko District, Radmilo Ivanović.
Three initially arrested persons were questioned yesterday at the Brčko District Prosecutor’s Office, namely the owner of the house, Zahida Đogo, her son and a woman from the Banja Luka area, who certainly also has Italian citizenship. After the interrogation, one month’s detention was proposed, which the Basic Court in Brčko will decide on during the day.
Five persons who were subsequently arrested will be questioned today, and investigators will assess whether there are grounds for suspicion that they committed criminal offenses and grounds for detention.
“These are persons who identify themselves as parents or relatives of the found children, but the prosecutor’s office has no reliable data or evidence that the children in the shelter are really theirs. We will determine this in the further course of the proceedings,” said Ivanović.
The Chief Prosecutor emphasized that the investigation in this case is necessary at the international level, which is why EUROPOL is involved in the collection of evidence.
