The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN and the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, together with the military representation in the Mission, on the 26th of this month, organized a ceremonial reception at the UN headquarters marking the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the Day of the Serbian Army.

In addition to representatives of permanent missions and military advisors to the UN, and UN officials, the reception was attended by representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church in New York and New Jersey, representatives of the City of New York, members of the New York consular corps and the Serbian diaspora. Among the guests of honor were His Royal Highness Prince Aleksandar, His Eminence Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America Elpidoforos, and His Grace Bishop of Eastern America Irinej.

At the beginning of the ceremonial reception, after the national anthem was sung by Sofija Sretenović, a video recording of the address by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, on the occasion of Statehood Day, was broadcast. Guests were welcomed by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN, Radomir Ilić, Colonel Miroslav Glišić, Senior Military Advisor in the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN, and Consul General Dr. Vladimir Božović.

In his address, Consul General Dr. V. Božović emphasized the historical significance of Sretenje, stressing that this holiday of Serbian statehood and historical heritage is also an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the invaluable contribution of members of our diaspora to their homeland, as well as to the communities in which they lived and created. He especially emphasized the achievements of the Serbian community in the United States of America, especially in New York, whose talent, dedication and results are permanently woven into the being of this city. At the same time, he expressed gratitude for the openness with which New York and the USA received our compatriots and enabled them to achieve themselves personally and professionally in the best possible way.

He expressed special gratitude to the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, for the Proclamation by which February 15 was declared Serbian-American Heritage Day in this city, which represents a strong expression of respect for the Serbian community and serves as a striking confirmation of the lasting ties between Serbia and the United States.

The reception paid tribute to Serbian statehood, its rich historical heritage, respected position in international relations, as well as the lasting partnership with the United States of America.
