The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team began its World Cup campaign, with the Dragons facing hosts Canada in their opening match. Bosnia and Herzegovina took a 1-0 lead as early as the 20th minute, with the goal scored by Jovo Lukić, who was born in Šabac and whose father is something of a local legend.
Jovo Lukić was born in Šabac in 1998, after his father, the renowned Mitar Lukić, had ended his playing career, having previously represented Mačva Šabac. Mitar Lukić is also considered a local legend, as he played not only for Mačva but also for Jedinstvo Vladimirovci.
Lukić began his career at Modriča, where his father was the coach, before moving on to Sloga Doboj, then Krupa, Zvijezda Gradačac, and later Borac Banja Luka. He spent four years with Borac before transferring to Universitatea Craiova and then Universitatea Cluj, where he enjoyed a dream season, recording 18 goals in 30 appearances.
As a result, Lukić earned a call-up to the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, and it took him only 20 minutes to score his first-ever goal for the Dragons.
At one point, Jovo Lukić was also close to joining Partizan, having been offered to the club during the winter of 2020. In December of that year, Telegraf reported that he had been proposed to Partizan after it became clear that Bajbek was struggling with injuries. At the time, Lukić had scored 10 goals in 21 matches and also registered four assists.
However, the matter went no further than the initial offer, as Partizan ultimately decided that they already had a player with similar characteristics in their squad, namely Nikola Štulić. At the time, Lukić was also attracting interest from Anderlecht and Dinamo Zagreb, but he remained at Borac for a while longer.
