HORROR IN ZADAR: 3-year-old child seriously injured in fire, firefighters found him alone in the apartment!

A serious fire broke out in an apartment on the fourth floor of a residential building on Franka Lisice Street in Zadar. A three-year-old child was seriously injured in the accident and is fighting for his life in hospital. According to unofficial information, the child was completely alone in the apartment when the fire broke out.

Zadar firefighters received a report of the fire at 7:50 p.m. and immediately headed to the scene with five vehicles. After entering the apartment on the fourth floor, they found that the fire had engulfed the kitchen and living room, and in a room filled with thick smoke they found the seriously injured child.

Ante Lončar, shift commander at the Zadar Public Fire Department, described the dramatic moments of the rescue:

“When we arrived at the scene, the kitchen area was engulfed in flames, and the couch was also burning. We found the child inside and handed him over to the Emergency Medical Service.”

Boris Jović, commander of the Zadar City Public Fire Department, also spoke about the intervention:

“The Zadar City Public Fire Department received the report of the fire at 7:50 p.m., and the fire that had engulfed two rooms in the apartment was brought under control at around 8:25 p.m.”

The fire, which destroyed two rooms, was brought under control and extinguished shortly afterward.

Doctors are fighting for the child’s life, emergency transfer to Zagreb planned

The child was transported by ambulance to Zadar General Hospital, where doctors immediately admitted him to the intensive care unit and intubated him. It was determined that he had suffered severe first- and second-degree burns covering between 40 and 60 percent of his body, as well as inhalation burns caused by breathing in hot air.

Dr. Nedjeljko Jović, assistant director of the Zadar hospital, confirmed the young patient’s serious condition:

“Immediately upon admission to the hospital, the child was placed in the intensive care unit, where he was intubated. He suffered first- and second-degree burns covering between 40 and 60 percent of his body, as well as inhalation burns caused by breathing in hot air.”

Dr. Jović said that resuscitation measures were immediately administered and announced a transfer to a specialized facility:

“The plan is for the child to be transported to the Clinic for Children’s Diseases in Klaićeva in Zagreb once his condition has stabilized. The child is in life-threatening condition.”

Klaićeva Hospital in Zagreb is the central national referral center for treating the most severely burned children, and the three-year-old is expected to be transferred there as soon as his condition allows.

Investigation underway

The exact cause of the fire in the apartment is not yet known. Police have secured the scene, and all circumstances and details of the accident will be known after the investigation.
