Jure Janković, the son of Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković, has been granted Serbian citizenship by a special decision of the Government, which states that this is “in the national interest” of the country, KRIK and Slovenian portal Oštro reveal. Janković’s official residence in Serbia is registered at the address of a villa owned by Nikola Petrović, former director of state-owned Elektromreža Srbije and godfather of President Aleksandar Vučić.
On the last day of October 2024, then-Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević signed a decision allowing Jure Janković, the son of Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković, to become a Serbian citizen, journalists from KRIK and Slovenian portal Oštro reveal.
According to KRIK, Janković obtained citizenship through a special procedure. Bypassing the usual regulations, the Serbian Government granted him citizenship by invoking an article of the law that justifies such a move by citing the existence of the country’s “national interest.”
It is not known what national interest of Serbia was served in this case. The Government did not respond to KRIK journalists’ questions and did not explain who recommended that Janković be granted citizenship, or at whose initiative this was done.
Residence at Vučić’s godfather’s address
According to official cadastral records, Jure Janković’s residence in Serbia is registered at a villa in Dedinje owned by Nikola Petrović, President Aleksandar Vučić’s godfather and former director of the state-owned Elektromreža Srbije (EMS), KRIK and Oštro journalists reveal.
Petrović’s close ties with Jure’s father, Zoran Janković, were previously uncovered by N1 Slovenia.
According to information provided by Janković’s office to N1, the two men met at least four times between the end of 2022 and April 2025 – including once at a dinner attended by Vučić as well.
Petrović did not respond to questions from KRIK and Oštro journalists about when and why he registered Jure Janković at his address in Belgrade, nor did he explain his relationship with his father, Zoran.
“You are uncultured and extremely rude, simply because you even have the idea that I will answer your investigative questions with the intention of writing a disgusting article, as you have written hundreds of them so far. I kindly ask you to write in large letters in your newsroom – do not contact Nikola Petrović. For anything you think he has done outside the law, there are competent institutions. Goodbye, and I wish you all the worst!” the Serbian president’s godfather wrote in a message.
Oštro journalists sent questions to Zoran and Jure Janković, but they did not respond.
