Two Powerful Earthquakes Struck One Minute Apart
Last Wednesday, Venezuela was hit by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, occurring just one minute apart. According to authorities and rescue teams, the quakes caused widespread building collapses and trapped thousands of people beneath the debris.
Moran, whom Delcy Rodríguez described as a three-year-old, while National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez referred to as a two-year-old, was subsequently taken to a medical facility for treatment, according to the statement.
“We must continue to hope that we will keep finding survivors beneath the rubble,” Jorge Rodríguez said during a televised address.
“Early this morning, a two-year-old boy was rescued and is currently receiving treatment at a medical center in Caracas.”
On Tuesday, a 47-metric-ton shipment of humanitarian aid from UNICEF arrived in Venezuela, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said, adding that the supplies would help support children and families affected by the disaster.
The shipment includes emergency medical kits, including supplies for safe childbirth, newborn care, as well as disease prevention and treatment, Dujarric added.
