At the premises of the General Consulate of the Republic of Serbia in New York, a lecture on Nikola Tesla was held, and Consul General Vladimir Božović on that occasion emphasized that Tesla, with his inventions, permanently changed the course of civilization’s development, that he was the pride of the Serbian people, but also that he became a citizen of the world, whose ideas and values still unite humanity today.
According to the General Consulate of the Republic of Serbia in New York, the lecture was held on September 30 by Dr. Branimir Jovanović, a distinguished scientist and one of the world’s leading experts on Tesla’s work, and longtime director of the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade, who dedicated his scientific and research work to studying Tesla’s personality and genius, and authored numerous books, studies, and publications, among which the landmark work Wireless stands out.
Those present were greeted by Consul General Vladimir Božović, who in his speech pointed to Tesla’s deep connection with the United States, especially with New York and Long Island, where he spent his most fruitful years, and reminded that it was New York where Tesla achieved his greatest creative accomplishments and the place where he ended his life’s journey at the “New Yorker” hotel.
He also stated that the lecture was dedicated to one of the greatest minds in the history of mankind and that Tesla is not only a name known today through modern industry, but a historical figure, a brilliant inventor, visionary, and scientist whose work illuminated the entire world.
He recalled that Tesla gave humanity alternating current, radio, wireless communication, X-ray, and numerous other inventions, with nearly 700 patents that still hold immeasurable significance today.
Consul General Božović conveyed that this event was not only a tribute to Tesla but also a celebration of a community that, with its knowledge, work, and enthusiasm, preserves his vision and passes it on to new generations; that it is the mission of Serbia and its diaspora to continue to preserve and affirm Tesla’s work, as well as to pass it on to young generations as a symbol of creativity, knowledge, perseverance, and vision.
After Dr. Jovanović’s inspiring lecture, the attendees had a unique opportunity to engage in an interactive conversation with him about the life, work, and creative legacy of Nikola Tesla, and the evening continued in a pleasant atmosphere with a cocktail reception at the premises of the General Consulate.
The event was attended by a large number of distinguished guests, including members of the family of the late Ljubo Vujović, longtime president of the Tesla Memorial Society of New York and guardian of Tesla’s legacy, Marina Švabić, former executive director of the Tesla Science Foundation and now president of the ASAP Foundation, as well as Matthew Rockefeller and Andrea Carti Barcen from the Global Passion Project.
