Colombian Nikola Ramirez, who has been living in Serbia for years, is helping volunteers battle the fire near the Maglič Fortress these days, according to posts on social media, while one video also shows the foreign national attempting to put out the fire with his bare hands.

“We were up there until just a little while ago. We tried to fight the fire, while preventing it from reaching the railway bridge so that we could continue working and put it out. If a lot of thick smoke comes down, we won’t be able to extinguish the fires. The terrain is extremely inaccessible,” the Colombian said from the scene, as reported by the “masina.rs” Instagram page.

As the aforementioned page further reports, dozens of volunteers, who are extremely poorly equipped, are trying to slow the spread of the fire. It adds that firefighters are also on the scene, but that their capabilities are limited due to the inaccessible terrain. Yesterday, they appealed for all available assistance to be sent.
