Maria Pappas, Treasurer of Cook County, called on all citizens living in the county to pay their property taxes on time to avoid penalties, but also to check if they are eligible for a refund based on previously paid obligations.
In a press release, she urged taxpayers from her county to find all the necessary information regarding their obligations by simply entering their address on the website www.cookcountytreasurer.com and to pay the second installment of property taxes online (via the website). The payment deadline is October 1, 2026, and late payments will be subject to late fees.
Pappas also called on citizens to check the same website to see if they are entitled to a tax refund based on previously paid taxes.
This especially applies to those whose property is also their primary residence, who can receive a refund from funds for the period 2023–2025 based on exemptions established by Cook County.
