SERBIAN JUSTICE MINISTER: Mladić will be buried with the highest state honors!

General of the Army of Republika Srpska Ratko Mladić will be buried with the highest state honors, Serbian Justice Minister Nenad Vujić confirmed today to Banja Luka-based Alternative Television (ATV).

“General Mladić is a general and the protocols are known. His role is also known, but what belongs to General Mladić will certainly be respected. I emphasize that Republika Srpska is not the one who decides here, the family will decide on the place where he will be buried as well, because that is a matter for his family,” Vujić told ATV.

“We expect the Mechanism to give us a certain timeframe regarding what the procedures are and what steps we need to take. We are ready, if they were to tell us to come tomorrow morning, to be in The Hague and take over the body of General Mladić,” Vujić said.

Mladić was sentenced to life imprisonment by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals for genocide in Srebrenica, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He was commander of the Main Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska from 1992 to 1996, and was arrested in Serbia in May 2011 and subsequently extradited to the Hague Tribunal.

The Mechanism’s Appeals Chamber confirmed in 2021 the first-instance verdict sentencing him to life imprisonment.
