The Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Porfirije assessed today that the goal of the verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) against the President of Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik is to annul the democratically expressed will of the Serbian people and thereby delegitimize the existence of RS, and thus the existence of the entire Serbian people in BiH.
As stated in the SPC statement, the patriarch visited Dodik in Banja Luka today and appealed to all authorities to take responsibility for preserving peace, and to the international military units (EUFOR) to do everything within their mandate to reduce tensions and antagonisms, and not to pose a threat to any of the communities. The statement conveys that Dodik said on that occasion that the leadership of Republika Srpska is united and determined to defend the Dayton Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the only possible framework for life in BiH by political and legal means.
He also assessed that the role of the church is of irreplaceable importance for preserving the identity of the Serbian people in those areas.
The Court of BiH in Sarajevo declared Dodik guilty of non-execution of the decisions of the High Representative of the international community in BiH and sentenced him to one year in prison and a ban on performing the function of the President of Republika Srpska for a period of six years from the date of the final verdict.
