Jelena A. (39) was seriously injured in Belgrade’s Vračar municipality after a 21-year-old driver allegedly struck her and her six-year-old daughter with an Audi while they were out for a walk. The mother was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and the first findings from the investigation, as reported by Blic, indicate that the Audi’s brakes may have failed.
The traffic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the 21-year-old driver struck the mother and daughter as they were walking.
According to the report, Jelena A. (39) managed to push her six-year-old daughter out of the way in an effort to save her life. The girl sustained minor injuries, while her mother was urgently transported to the Emergency Center.
According to unconfirmed information, the woman suffered fractures to both legs.
Brakes reportedly failed, driver lost control
Investigators suspect that the Audi’s brakes failed. The driver allegedly struck a utility pole and then saw the mother and daughter in the street but was unable to avoid hitting them.
The Audi then spun around and struck Jelena and her daughter. The vehicle will undergo forensic examination to determine all the circumstances surrounding the crash, while prosecutors will request footage from nearby surveillance cameras.
Criminal charges will be filed against the Audi driver through regular legal proceedings. According to available information, the young man has no prior criminal convictions and was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
