Young man Mihajlo D. (24), with a cap on his head and sunglasses on his face, walked yesterday around 11:00 AM into the “Jerry” restaurant in New Belgrade, pulled a gun, and fired multiple shots at the restaurant owner G. S. The attacker was soon detained, the wounded restaurateur was transported to the Emergency Center, and it is being investigated whether Mihajlo D. was paid for this attack.
The restaurateur was hit in the legs, and multiple gunshot and exit wounds were diagnosed at the hospital. After the shooting, the suspect young man started to flee, and then a real drama ensued.
Namely, the young gunman did not expect that a plainclothes police officer would be nearby, allegedly a member of the Special Antiterrorist Unit (SAJ), who was off duty. He ran up to the young man, jumped on him, and overpowered him.
During the scuffle, the suspect dropped his gun to one side, and his cap and sunglasses to the other. The police officer overpowered the young man and held him until police reinforcements arrived and took him over, handcuffed him, and placed him in the back seat of a patrol car.
Mihajlo D. was immediately brought to the station, and according to unofficial information that could be heard at the scene, it is suspected that the attacker was hired for the attack.
It is suspected that the attacker was promised a real fortune for this attack. Allegedly, Mihajlo was supposed to receive tens of thousands of euros after committing the deed.
Bomb Thrown
This is just the latest in a series of attacks on catering facilities in Belgrade, and it is not the first one targeting the property of G. S. Namely, a few months ago, an explosive device was thrown at “Jerry”. Otherwise, G. S. is the owner of another large and successful establishment in New Belgrade, which also deals in catering.
By the way, the “Jerry” restaurant is located in an elite complex in Tresnjinog cveta Street and has an elite clientele. In front of the restaurant and in the underground garage, there is a vehicle fleet worth several million euros.
After the attack, strong police forces arrived at the scene, as well as some high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, and this shooting came at an “inconvenient time”, while the storm surrounding the disappearance and alleged murder of Aleksandar Nesovic Bajo in another elite restaurant, “27”, on Senjak has still not quieted down.
Series of Attacks
In addition, it is also symptomatic that during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, a series of attacks on establishments in Belgrade occurred. These are well-known establishments in Belgrade – “Babaroga”, “Vinoteka”, and “Angelino”.
Explosive devices were thrown at “Babaroga” in Zvezdara and “Angelino” in Vracar, and fortunately, no one was injured.
The “Vinoteka” establishment in Branicevska Street was targeted by vandals who smashed the shop window last night. The “Babaroga” and “Vinoteka” establishments have already been targeted by a group that was linked to the burning of establishments in Belgrade and racketeering.
On the other hand, the owner of “Angelino”, Vuk Bajrusevic, was himself the target of an attack a few months ago, when he was wounded precisely in that establishment.
It is also symptomatic that in that wave of violence, a few months ago, a bomb was also thrown at the “Jerry” establishment, and now the owner has been wounded.
