The increase in the number of voters by almost 8,000 newly registered voters within a week has raised the alarm among members of the Voter Register Audit Commission. Attorney Ognjen Rašuo, one of the members of this commission, told IZLAZ.com that this represents a major discrepancy and that such a large number of newly registered voters has never appeared within such a short period.
Although our interlocutor did not have information from previous election cycles, during his involvement there had never been such frequent registration of new voters. He added that the register can be considered reliable, but that further checks of newly registered voters are necessary.
“This discrepancy is very large. It has never happened that we had almost 8,000 newly registered voters this quickly. The register can currently be considered reliable, but it is necessary to check who these people registering are,” the member of the Commission said.
Rašuo stressed that the register contains people who had been abroad and now want to vote, as well as people who are becoming eligible to vote for the first time. He pointed out that there are different profiles of voters, but that there is still no precise information on whether anyone has registered their residence more than once.
“We only have information that a residence has been registered, nothing more,” Rašuo confirmed. He did not want to comment on whether this was election engineering or a high level of citizens’ interest in turning out to vote.
Danijel Dašić, a member of the polling commission, also addressed international institutions monitoring the electoral process regarding the unexplained increase in the number of newly registered voters on the voter register.
“Ahead of the upcoming elections, civil society organizations, observers and concerned citizens have identified large, unexplained spikes in the number of newly registered voters in the Unified Voters’ Register. While Serbia claims to be following ODIHR recommendations, phantom voters and artificial changes of residence remain systematically unrecognized problems,” Dašić said.

Dašić appealed to ODIHR members to send their mission to monitor the voter register and to ask the Serbian authorities to allow independent non-governmental organizations access to complete data related to the voter register.
As a reminder, over the past 10 days, the number of newly registered voters has increased by almost 8,000, with the first drastic spike occurring on September 14, when around 3,000 new voters were registered within three days.
A similar number of voters were registered between September 18 and 19, while 800 new voters were added to the register between September 19 and 20.
Rašuo posted on his X social media profile this morning that Novi Sad currently holds the record for the number of new voters, with 930 newly registered, representing more than 10 percent of all new voters. He added that the large influx of new voters is “a serious alarm for manipulation,” but that he is continuing to monitor the situation.
