U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he was “immediately” banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from accessing the White House, in the latest turn in his tense relationship with American media outlets.

In a lengthy post on the Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump said that these media outlets “constantly write or report fiction or lies” when it comes to his administration, although he did not provide any examples.

For now, it is unclear exactly what the ban would entail and whether employees of these media outlets will be denied entry to the White House grounds.

CNN points out that, according to First Amendment experts, the measure is unconstitutional.

“CNN will continue its mission of reporting on the U.S. government regardless of any attempts to restrict physical access to the White House and other government buildings, or any attempts to interfere with our journalism,” CNN said.

Both MS NOW and CNN announced that they would take legal action to defend the rights of their reporters.

Trump said on Friday that he was banning the news network MS NOW, as well as CNN and Politico, from the White House because of what he described as unfavorable coverage and fake news.

Correspondents for these networks are usually present on weekends when the president is in Washington or at nearby Camp David. Trump is staying at the presidential retreat in Maryland this weekend.

MS NOW White House correspondent Akayla Gardner was turned away at the entrance and had her press pass confiscated, as she herself said during this morning’s program.

She said that she successfully passed through two gates, but when she reached the point where her pass had to be scanned, an officer told her that it had been deactivated and asked her to hand it over.
