Few people know that Cleopatra Zvezdana Nikolić is hidden behind the artistic name Cleo Sol. This world star, born in London to a Jamaican father and a Serbian mother, is today one of the most respected names in modern music who proudly emphasizes her Serbian origin.
Zvezdana was born in London, into a family where music was an everyday occurrence. Her father is Jamaican, while her mother is of Serbian and Spanish descent. Her parents met while playing in the same jazz band, which had a decisive influence on her later artistic path and the mix of genres for which she is recognizable.
Although she grew up in Great Britain, Zvezdana has emphasized the importance of her roots on several occasions. Her real name, which symbolizes light in the Serbian language, faithfully reflects her approach to soul and R&B sound.
She gained wider popularity through her collaboration with producer Inflo, as well as her role as the lead vocalist in the mysterious collective SAULT, which became a global phenomenon. Her solo albums, such as “Rose in the Dark” and “Mother”, received high marks from prestigious magazines such as Rolling Stone and The Guardian.
Unlike many of her colleagues, Zvezdana Nikolić values privacy and rarely gives interviews, letting her music speak for her. However, the fact that one of the most respected modern singers comes from a Serbian-Jamaican family attracts great attention and pride in our diaspora.
