The science.org website has published an article about the Student List’s electoral victory, titled “Serbia Just Elected the Smartest Parliament in the World.” Authors Nenad Jarić Dauenhauer and Mićo Tatalović write about the Student List’s goals and how its two-year struggle unfolded.

The science.org website, the online portal of the renowned magazine Science, has published an article about the students’ victory in the snap parliamentary elections, informing the international scientific community about how the election came about and describing the culmination of a two-year struggle in a “stunning” victory for the students.

Speaking about the engineers, astronomers, sociologists, economists and political scientists who will soon take their seats in parliament, the authors point out that, of the 250 people on the Student List, more than half hold a PhD or have completed master’s studies.

In addition to the two-year civic and political struggle, science.org also outlines the goals of the civic-student uprising. These include the fight against corruption, the establishment of meritocracy, acceptance of responsibility and the rule of law.

The article also discusses the candidates on the Student List’s lack of political experience, as well as their outstanding expertise, which could influence efforts to resolve the country’s institutional crisis and address other issues, particularly economic ones.

The article features statements from the rector of the University of Belgrade, Vladan Đokić, as well as molecular biologist Željko Popović, physicist Miodrag Krmar and chemist Marija Lesjak, the latter three from the University of Novi Sad. In addition to an end to regime repression and the persecution of dissenters, the scientists hope that Serbia will also make progress in education and investment in science.
