The Ministry of Education announced that universities and faculties will once again allocate 20 hours per week to scientific research or artistic work and 20 hours to teaching duties, while academies and higher vocational schools will return to a distribution of 10 hours for professional or artistic work and 30 hours for teaching.
The Government of Serbia adopted regulations repealing the Regulation Amending the Regulation on Criteria for Determining Tuition Costs at higher schools founded by the Republic, as well as the Regulation Amending the Regulation on Norms and Standards for the Working Conditions of Universities and Faculties for activities financed from the budget. As a result, the distribution of teaching staff working hours has been restored to the system that was in place before those amendments were introduced, according to a statement issued after the Government session.
“The 2025 amendments, as stated, were introduced as a temporary measure to facilitate the makeup of classes during the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic years, when it was necessary to increase the number of teaching hours due to interruptions in instruction. Since the circumstances that required such a solution no longer exist, the Government has restored the previous distribution of working hours, also taking into account the requests of representatives of the academic community that these amendments be repealed,” the Ministry of Education said.
By adopting these two regulations, the Government responded to the repeatedly expressed requests of representatives of the academic community to repeal the 2025 amendments to the regulations.
