For some reason, all sports fans feel the need to argue their choice for the greatest athlete of all time.
Never before was this popular; players from different sports were never ranked, the weight of a sport was never measured, and parallels were never drawn. Not until now, when the internet allowed unprecedented connectivity, and things that seemed incompatible can now be viewed together. Or at least some think so.
Be that as it may, the page “caesarsports” published a tweet by a fan who ranked the top 20 athletes “of our generation”. That is also a rather loose definition of an era, and on that list Lionel Messi is first. That is not surprising since it was the knockout stage of the World Cup at the time, and Messi was playing a fantastic tournament. Under the impression of the World Cup, he decided to put him in first place, followed by LeBron James, then Tom Brady.
Novak Đoković took seventh place there, while in 20th position—also somewhat unexpectedly—was Nikola Jokić.
However, Nik Kyrgios then chimed in and set off a firestorm among fans with his comment.
“Djokovic is #1. You clearly have no tennis knowledge,” Kyrgios wrote briefly, and from that moment dozens of people began writing that Đoković is number 1. In fact, there were more comments placing Novak in first place than all the others combined.
