U.S. President Donald Trump said he expects Greenland to be under American control before he leaves the White House in January 2029, once again raising an issue that has sparked serious tensions between Washington and its European allies.

During an interview with Real America’s Voice, host Steve Gruber said he believes Greenland will ultimately come under the operational control of the United States. Trump replied that, in his view, that prediction would prove correct, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Arctic island.

Trump argues that Greenland is vital to U.S. national security and warned that if Washington fails to act, Russia and China could further strengthen their influence on the island.

His remarks have raised concerns in Denmark, Greenland, and among European partners, who maintain that only the people of Greenland and Denmark can decide the future of the semi-autonomous territory.

Tensions Over Greenland

The tensions reached a peak in January, when Trump threatened to impose a 10 percent tariff on goods from several European countries, including Denmark, until an agreement was reached on the “complete purchase of Greenland.” He later abandoned the tariff plan following talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Prediction markets, however, remain skeptical. Polymarket estimates the probability of Trump taking control of Greenland before 2027 at just 4 percent, while Kalshi gives a 22 percent chance that the United States will acquire new territory before the end of his term.
