Dejana Pejić, 35, a Serbian national whose body was found in bushes behind a glass recycling container in the German city of Marburg, was pregnant, German newspaper Bild reported, citing its own sources.

A 42-year-old Polish national has been arrested on suspicion of killing her. According to media reports, he had previously been in a relationship with her.

According to the findings of the investigation so far, Dejana suffered 19 stab wounds. Her body was found on Wednesday afternoon, October 21, in bushes behind a glass recycling container on Am Erlengraben Street, about 250 meters from the Erlенring shopping center.

The 35-year-old woman was last seen on Tuesday evening, at around 6 p.m., when surveillance cameras recorded her leaving the shopping center.

Marek R., 42, a Polish national who had previously been in a relationship with Dejana, is suspected of the murder. It is not known whether the two were still together at the time of the crime.

According to the German newspaper, the suspect fled to Poland after the crime. Investigators issued national and European arrest warrants for him, and he was arrested on Thursday, October 22.

Public prosecutor Katrin Ortmüller said that the Marburg District Court had issued the arrest warrants at the prosecution’s request on suspicion of murder.

Investigators praised their cooperation with Polish colleagues, who acted quickly. Marek R. is being held in custody in Poland and is awaiting extradition to Germany.

The motive for the crime and the circumstances surrounding Dejana’s murder have yet to be clarified. The weapon used in the killing has also not been found.

According to investigators, Dejana had recently been staying at a women’s shelter because of a previous relationship with another man. Police stressed that this man is not the person currently suspected of her murder.

A friend of the deceased woman told Bild that Dejana had three children. It is not yet known whether they were her biological children or stepchildren.

Police in Marburg are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the Erlенring area to contact the authorities.

Investigators are particularly seeking witnesses who were in the area between approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21.
