U.S. President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran to end the five-month war are currently underway, while Tehran insists that no talks have begun or are even planned, increasing uncertainty over diplomatic efforts and the security of global energy routes, Reuters reported today.

“They are happening right now,” Trump told reporters at the White House, saying the talks were requested by Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.

“This is their last chance (Iran) to sign a good document,” the U.S. president said, after abandoning what he described over the weekend as “massive strikes” against Iran that he had previously approved.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei rejected Trump’s claims, saying there are no negotiations with the United States and that no meeting has been scheduled. He added that Iran has no plans to receive foreign delegations or send negotiators abroad.

Baghaei said the only discussions currently taking place are with Oman regarding the management of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the key maritime passage through which around one-fifth of the world’s oil and natural gas supplies transit.

The uncertainty intensified after a commercial vessel reported being struck by an unidentified projectile near the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman, Britain’s UKMTO maritime agency said.

Trump later reiterated on his Truth Social platform that the U.S. Navy had taken full control of the Strait of Hormuz and declared that nothing would be allowed to pass toward Iran “unless an agreement is reached or there is complete surrender.”
