James Blair and Chris LaCivita, political advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump, donated the money they earned this month working for Milorad Dodik’s election campaign to Trump’s presidential library, CNN reports.
“Yes, it is true that we donated the entire fee. I love the president and will be forever grateful for the opportunities he has given me. It is an honor to contribute to preserving his great legacy,” Blair wrote on X in response to an article by the New York Post, which first reported the donation, Klix reports.
LaCivita also confirmed the donation. He wrote that preserving Trump’s legacy and his story was an honor and simply the right thing to do.
The exact amount of the donation is unknown. According to the New York Post, each of the two men earned more than $100,000 for their work in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Earlier this month, Trump said he would fire Blair and LaCivita from their positions as political advisers if it turned out that their outside work constituted a conflict of interest.
“They are allowed to work for others, just like all consultants in Washington. I have no idea who else they work for, but after thinking it over, I will ask them, and if there is a conflict of interest, I will fire them immediately,” Trump wrote at the time.
The New York Times previously reported that the two men had traveled to the Balkans ahead of the elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the newspaper, each received hundreds of thousands of dollars through a Washington law firm hired by the government of Republika Srpska to provide advice on election-related matters.
CNN previously reported, citing a veteran Republican who is in contact with the president, that Trump was furious over the Times articles.
Blair runs Trump’s super PAC MAGA Inc. and is responsible for the president’s strategy ahead of the congressional elections, while LaCivita is a senior adviser at MAGA Inc.
