The Chamber of Public Notaries announced today that notaries in all 225 offices across Serbia worked in accordance with “available capacities” and according to the order of receipt of requests for the certification of citizens’ signatures in support of electoral lists.

All 225 public notary offices across Serbia have received requests from political parties, coalitions, and citizen groups over the past days for the certification of voters’ signatures supporting electoral lists for the upcoming parliamentary elections and have engaged available capacities in accordance with the law, according to the statement.

It was stated that requests are still being received and are submitted in written form to public notary offices for performing official actions outside the office.

The statement notes that the request must contain the precisely designated location and date of the signature certification performance.

It was specified that public notaries record received requests according to the order of receipt, recording the date and time of receipt, and that the available capacities of public notary offices are engaged according to that order.

“The possibility of acting upon a request at the requested time depends on the order of its receipt and the available capacities of the public notary office at that time,” it adds.

It was stated that the certification of voters’ signatures can be carried out within the boundaries of the official seat of the public notary to whom the request was submitted, and outside the official seat with the prior approval of the Chamber of Public Notaries of Serbia.

For the certification of a voter’s signature supporting an electoral list, as announced, the public notary is paid a fee of 30 dinars per signature, including value-added tax.

“In addition to 225 public notaries, these tasks can also be performed by notary assistants, associates, and trainees, so the number of persons authorized to perform these tasks significantly exceeds the number of public notaries,” it clarifies.

It is added that “during the election process, public notary offices will adapt their work organization to the volume of requests for signature certification.”

They noted that, in addition to public notaries and other authorized persons in public notary offices, municipal and city administrations also have legally prescribed jurisdiction for certifying the signatures of voters supporting electoral lists.
