Twenty-one-year-old Marko Tošić from Lunovo Selo near Užice tragically died from injuries sustained in a serious traffic accident that occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at around 11:25 p.m. on Užičke Republike Street, on the section above “Koštička Krivina” toward Terazije.
The accident occurred when Nikola Lukić (38) from Užice, driving a luxury “BMW X6” SUV under the influence of alcohol, crossed into the opposite lane and directly collided with the “Yamaha” motorcycle ridden by the young Tošić.
The young motorcyclist was rushed to Užice General Hospital with serious bodily injuries to receive medical treatment. Unfortunately, despite the doctors’ efforts and attempts to resuscitate him, the young man soon succumbed to his injuries.
Immediately after the crash, police subjected the car driver to a breathalyzer test, which showed that he had at least 1.09 mg/ml (per mille) of alcohol in his system, while subsequent blood tests showed a significantly higher level – as much as 1.7 per mille, indicating severe intoxication.
At the request of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Užice, suspect Nikola Lukić was placed in custody and proceedings were initiated on suspicion that he committed a serious offense against public traffic safety.
Užice and Lunovo Selo were left in shock and mourning following the tragic death of Marko, while local residents and his family are calling for the harshest punishment for driving under the influence of alcohol, which claimed yet another young life.
